WEEKEND 1 / Day 1 – Saturday
Option 1: “Pejibaye River Route”.
Starting in your hotel, we pick you up at 7:30 a.m. heading toward the city of Cartago (first capital city of Costa Rica).
We stop for breakfast at Cervantes, a little town where you can admire the “antiques” collected for many years. The tour starts at “Angostura” hydroelectric plant, biking through sugar and coffee plantations.
The route is flat with a mountain segment of dense jungle and up hills. The feeling inside the mountain is awesome and there are good views of rivers from the road. Our support van is available all the time with a cooler full of water to refill your bottles every time you need.
As the exercise requires a lot of energy, we also bring tropical fruits, candies and a mix of nuts and raisins in order to keep you strong enough to perform the task you paid for. After the adventure in the dense jungle, we arrive to “Pejibaye” town, a quaint town of workers from the sugar cane and coffee plantations.
Continuing on flat dirt road, we arrive to “La Posa” a pool formed by the Pejibaye river, this is your chance to get in the water to refresh and take out all the dirt and sweat from your body. After refreshing, we take the dirt road again on our way to the ending point. After we finish the route, we will drive to a typical restaurant where a delicious lunch will be served. We recommend bringing extra clothes, shoes and a towel.
Option 2: “Guayabo Indigenous Route”.
We will pick you up in your hotel at 7:30 a.m., heading toward the town of Santa Cruz of Turrialba.
We will begin our route on dirt and gravel road where we will pass by properties of livestock breeding for milk production and wild mountains. The feeling along the route is such an experience due to the combination of an excellent climate with a good biking exercise.
You will see the farmer’s houses and some particular crops of the region. Bicycle is one of the most important ways of transportation in the region. Along the way you will find lots of men and children going up and down with their bikes and saying hello to foreign bikers.
Biking in Costa Rica is not only healthy and funny but an incredible experience where you can share with local people their way of living and getting a close up with nature and one of the best climates in the world which makes your tour more interesting and really willing to tell your friends you had a great time in the green and beautiful mountains of peaceful Costa Rica.
During the route we pass by the National Monument of Guayabo (optional tour to appreciate the beginning of a missing indigenous community). Continuing our bike ride we arrive at the central park of Turrialba where we will finish our journey. We will have lunch in a typical restaurant of the area.
This Route has a length of 32 Kms: 19 kms. in dirt and gravel road and 13 kms. on paved road with 2.5 kms. of steep hills.
